Automotive Paint Protection FAQ

What brands do you use for paint protection?

For our protective film which is applied on strategic areas of your vehicle, we use SolarFX® products which offer superior color and durability for the entirety of their 10 year service life. Ceramic coatings from AERO® are an alternative which is applied over the whole vehicle surface.

How long does paint protection take to apply?

Both PPF and ceramic coating products take just a few hours to apply, depending on the surface area to be covered. If you’d like a more exact estimate for times at our Gresham, OR car paint protection application shop, give us a call.

What is the best protective coating for car paint?

There are a few kinds of protective coating, each with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Wax is perhaps the most basic protective coating. It’s the cheapest, softest, and wears off the quickest, but is easy to apply and covers the whole vehicle. Paint Protection Films provide a thicker and more permanent barrier for high-risk areas of a car’s exterior, but do not cover the whole vehicle. Ceramic coatings last longer than wax but not as long as PPFs, though they do cover the whole car and are much tougher than traditional wax products. For maximum protection, it may be possible to use multiple kinds of paint protection at the same time.

How much does it cost for paint protection on a car?

Contact our Gresham car paint protection application shop for an estimate based on the service you’re looking for, current material prices, and your specific vehicle.

Does paint protection stop scratches?

The goal of any paint protection system is to stop scratches. The question is what kind of scratches can be avoided. The tougher and thicker the paint protection, the more scratch resistance you’ll get.

How long does paint protection last on a car?

Our SolarFX® Paint Protection Film is warranted to last for 10 years. Ceramic coatings last between one and seven years.

Can I wax Frontline Paint Protection Film Matte?

Some waxes will add a level of gloss to PPFMatte. However, there are waxes on the market specifically for matte finishes. Waxing is still recommended for added protection.

Can I take my car through a pressure wash with Frontline Paint Protection Film?

It is best practice to wait 3 days before washing your car. While hand washing is preferred, you can use a pressure wash, but be careful near edges as the pressure water can lift the edge.

Can “coatings” be applied to Frontline Paint Protection Film?

Ceramic coatings are approved for use with our Paint Protection Films when applied over the surface of the product. Ceramic coatings create an additional barrier for solvent and water penetration while not negatively impacting the performance or self-healing of our Paint Protection Film. This application will not void your warranty.

If there is a stain that won’t wash off, what do I do?

If a stain will not wash off with a regular car wash, you can apply isopropyl alcohol to a microfiber towel and clean the stain, if that does not work you can use a small amount of lacquer thinner. If the stain remains we would recommend you use a mild-abrasive wax and polish the surface of the film to restore the original appearance. Polishing/buffing of the film is a great way to remove contaminants from the surface, however this process should be limited to as-needed or once every 12- 18 months. An example of a mild-abrasive wax would be Turtle Wax Renew RX Polishing Compound Light to Medium Cleaner.
